Moving On

Posted by – 26/10/2007

I was born in Woodstock, Ontario (see below) and lived there for the first year of my life. Then my family moved to Welland, where we stayed for about 3 years. Then we moved to Queenston Heights, which is near Niagara Falls, and lived on the production chicken farm for about another 3 years. We then moved to Niagara-On-The-Lake, and stayed there for almost 6 years (for me, this was grades 1 through to the last term of grade 6). Then we moved to St. Catharines, where I lived until I was almost 19 and I moved to Toronto, because I was a big girl. I lived in Windsor for 4 years, until I was just shy (we’re talking a week) of 35 years old. Now I am back in Toronto.

I went to many different schools, growing up, one for nursery school, one for junior kindergarten, 2 different schools for kindergarten, one for grade school, one for junior high, and one high school. Wait, two high schools. And two colleges.

My first stint living in Toronto, which was about 12 years, I lived in 9 different apartments. I co-owned the house in Windsor, and now I live in my own little place, with the grey rag, Rose.

Now here’s my point: I have moved a lot in my life. Not just changing schools in the same town, but moving to a completely different town. Sure, they were all close together, but when you are 5 years old and don’t know how to drive yet and you aren’t allowed to use the phone, and the phone isn’t fun ANYway, it’s hard. And you learn to adapt. This is why I hate saying goodbye. It’s why I don’t do it. Sure, there was a big going away party for me when I was moving from Toronto to Windsor, but I knew, in my heart, that I would be coming home one day. I didn’t feel like a goodbye, it felt like see you later.

I miss my friends in Windsor. I am angry with myself for not saying goodbye, at the least, and angrier still for not having the balls to stay in touch. For thinking that maybe they weren’t really friends, but thinking that I wasn’t really their friend.

Shit.

When it’s in the newspaper, you know it’s true.

How can I stay mad at you?

Spoken in a very angry voice:

“Then I am going to THROW THIS PICTURE OUT!” Accompanied by some very serious paper scrunching and flaring eyes.

But first I need to know which garbage bin it goes in!

New!

I got these over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and am thrilled. Before I was using old bottles from Malabar that were supposed to hold paint for a spray thing. It’s late and my brain is a little broken. An airbrush! Anyway, they were $1.99 each, or 9 for $29.99, but you get a metal thing to mount to your wall. Lucky for me, my entire kitchen is metal and I stuck them to the stove hood. Oven hood? Range hood.

Oooh, spicey

Guess how many times I sneezed while transferring spices. The correct answer is lots of times.

If you’re wondering, located above the new spice rack is a squeaky monk on a cel phone my mother gave me, a geode from my dad, an antique metal match holder and my collection of Kool-Aid points. I am waiting for a decent prize to be offered. I think I have a million points by now, so I might just buy the entire company. (Last time I checked all I qualified for was rub on tattoos.)

Further Cupcaking

Well, these were made from a mix. Lemon cake mix was on sale, and I did have all that extra frosting leftover…

freshly born lemon cupcakes

Pretty cute, huh?

Now comes the frosting part

Getting better looking by the minute.

Blueberries!

It wasn’t on purpose that they came out looking like tits. I think my mother was amused, but I talked loud enough that she wasn’t able to make any comments. I brought them to a staff meeting.

And with the leftover cake batter…

Not so pretty, I know

Yeah, I know. But did you know that blueberries sink in batter and make a blueberry mess at the bottom? And did you know that my oven is hotter than you’d think and everything was a little burnt? Did you know that it didn’t matter and everything got eaten anyway? I mean, other than 9/10ths of the cake? Yeah. Well.

Sorry

Long time no blog. It’s hard, what with work, work, work and day-to-day difficulties of the personal sort. At least there’s love.

Snakelove.

How many e’s are there in the sound “eeeeeEEEEE!!!”? More than that? Could be. I went to see a movie tonight for work, haha, how fun is it that I get paid to see movies, and they showed a preview for the new Tim Burton movie, Sweeney Todd.

Like, I had my hands clutched over my heart and my mouth was wide open and I was making loud, excited, involuntary noises. This is a movie based on my favourite musical of all times. I once went to see it twice in one week. That is how much I love it. And love Sondheim for his pure brilliance.

Therasa was somewhat less excited. She covered her eyes for the whole thing. I think she might not like scary movies? She had better not have a problem with musicals. I might have to quit my job if that were true.
