It’s rock and roll and the message is:DO IT!

I have told the same stupid joke for years and never gotten a laugh, until last night, that is. A co worker of mine was telling me about the time he went to see Cyndi Lauper in concert (at Casinorama!) and she held his hand during “Time After Time” and how it was so awesome. So amazing. And so I say:

“Yeah, I was at a Rollins show once and he pointed at me all the way through a song. We really connected.” And my buddy started laughing so hard, and I got embarassed and turned red and laughed for about 5 minutes solid. It was great. Finally, a joke I have been working on since 1992 worked. And if you were wondering, it’s the song “Tearing” that works best, in my mind, with that story.

(And if you need an explanation of this, look up Rollins Band on youtube and you’ll see what I mean. I think. I also claimed that Rollins shops for shorts at the same store as Richard Simmons, so maybe we were really laughing at that.)

I had to read that entry on two separate occasions to get it. And now, that I do, think that it is really fucking funny.

  3. See, ok, I worried about that, like, maybe my joke is just to vague. Do you get that he spends all concerts in a squat position, mic in both hands, all wound up and often ends up pointing into the crowd? See, it’s not really that great a joke, I guess you’d have to have seen him live to really appreciate it, which was why I added the cheap shot (Richard Simmons) at the end. And when viewing youtube concert footage, he’s mostly wearing longer shorts, but trust me, I have seen him live lots of times, and he used to wear those tiny nylon runner shorts.

I hope that’s what you got. It’s not that funny, really. Especially explained, like this, and I think the reason I laughed so hard was all the times I didn’t get to laugh a little bit about it were all saved up.

I found your geek factor in this quite humerous.
The joke? cherry on a sundae.. or is it, little tight hot shorts in the squating position?
    Nah, definitely the cherry. :p

Oh it’s not too vague, and really it’s REALLY funny. I can’t believe I didn’t get it the first time.
And did I ever tell you that my mother, after seeing him on TV once said and I quote, “He could leave his boots under my bed any day.” MOM!! *hand flap*

Considering the scantiness of his shorts in years past, I do not find that hard t believe.
And I like how an entry about Hank and his shorty-pants gets the most comments.
