I love books. No, like, I LOVE books. I have a lot of books, but I used to have more, before I returned to Toronto. I gave a lot of them away, donated some and pretty much just left the rest (well, not the rest, but a bunch) at my old house. I know you are wondering what I’ve been reading lately, so here is a recent (partial) list:
The 100-Mile Diet: A Year of Local Eating by Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon- I loved this book and it made me think about what I eat and where it comes from. Plus it gets bonus points for being Canadian. One day I will have a garden and chickens and I will know what I eat everyday in a more personal way.
Black Hole by Charles Burns- His art is amazing, I have been a fan since my Silver Snail days. And the story is just incredible, totally riveting.
The Hamburger: A History (Icons of America) by Josh Ozersky- Shannon bought me this book and it’s really good. I’d never given much thought to hamburgers before and this book covers all the bases. It’s a quick read and one day I will finish it.
The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts by Tom Farley and Tanner Colby- well, if you were ever a fan of Farley, you have to read this book. It’s so awesome. ‘Member that time Farley fell down? And broke a table? Then pulled his pants up? And yelled? Yeah. That was so great.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver- Another book to help me keep my current life in perspective while dreaming about the future. Ms. Kingsolver writes in a way that make it all seem very doable.
Another Book About Another Broken Heart by Julia Tausch- I work with Julia and was worried when I bought her book that I might not like it and would feel awkward the next time I saw her. Luckily I loved it and have been gushing on about it to anyone that will listen. That would be Emily and she can only listen until a baby screams or barfs. But it is a wonderful book and if you want a copy tell me and I will hook you up. Autographed personally too.
Mortified:Real Words, Real People, Real Pathetic by David Nadelberg- Holy shitballs. I think I shredded my teenaged (and beyond) angst writings and thank goodness for that. This book is so cringingly hilarious, I keep having to put it down because I know I am turning red on the subway. I am for sure going to buy his other book because this stuff is pure gold.
Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant by Jenni Ferrari-Adler- A book about what people eat when they are alone. I haven’t started this one yet but I am sure it will be good, I love love love books about food. I also love cookbooks and reading recipes and crochet patterns, but I mostly love food books.

I just read a nice short story collection called Jenny and the Jaws of Life by Jincy Willett. Soon I am going to start Five Quarts: A Natural and Personal History of Blood. I am excited about this so I hope it won’t turn out to be a big poop.
Did you hear they are turning Youth in Revolt into a movie?
What what what??!!?? Whoa, that would be a great movie, wow. I love day-dream-casting movies of my favourite books. I often include actors that are dead though, so it’s completely impossible.

I love that Michael Cera. I think he’s a cutie pie and want him to be my little brother. Apparently he really loves the book and was super eager to be Nick Twisp. I hope they make it as crude as it needs to be.
One comment on imbd was where’s Fuzzy? And it’s true, where is he? Or is that nerdy guy playing him…Maybe I need to re read the book, I wish it wasn’t jammed into a box…
Now I notice Trent is not in there either. That guy from the Mac/PC commercials is on here with no role listed but he is far too old to be playing either of those. Although, they only announced Steve Buscemi a couple weeks ago so maybe they aren’t done casting.
And it’s being filmed in Ann Arbor, where Ali lives and I am totally jealous and would spend my days riding around on my bike looking for crews and famous people. I really would. And I would make lemonade and banana muffins and bring them and hand them out. Then I would beg beg beg to be an extra.
Okay whoa. Yeah, I need to read this book and then stalk around looking for where they’re filming this.
