Month: August 2008

Some opinions differ

I had another great day. We got to sleep in a little this morning, which was nice, and it didn’t rain. I call that amazing! I went for a bike ride, to Zeller’s, to get more yarn for gifts. Shannon and I weren’t able to get to Gillian and Clive’s wedding last month, and I feel terrible about it. We were invited and I am going to send gifts soon, I promise. Their mailing address would be helpful too, hint hint.

Anyway, I had time so I looked at everything at Zeller’s, because I love doing that. Shopping solo is one of life’s greatest joys. I wound up in the toy department because I wanted to get a jigsaw puzzle that has more than 15 giant pieces. The one I picked has 100, and it’s already been finished twice by everyone in the house.

Then I spotted this toy:

Me?

I got spooked because I thought it looked a little like me. Shannon says it doesn’t really at all, which means I have a skewed sense of what I look like. I mean, obviously, I don’t wear tan pants, I am not anorexic and I do have tattoos. I didn’t read the box ’til I got home and now I totally want that toy! New friends and lifestyle? Yes!

ps If you haven’t seen it  yet, I would like to highly recommend Tropic Thunder. Seriously. It’s the funniest movie I have seen all year, and I go see a lot of movies. And Tom Cruise is amazing in it, he totally redeemed himself, almost, Scientologically speaking.

Lovely day

Like yesterday, today the sky is beautiful. Well, it was 5 minutes ago, and that is what this is all about. I even went swimming this morning, largely by myself, and enjoyed the cool water immensely. I don’t get to swim enough, because of my crazy work schedule, so if I have to do it solo, so be it.

I have a work related party to attend tonight, and hopefully I will have more pictures to post later.

That’s what the view is if you like leaning over the balcony a little. I love it.

He likes blue, but the darker blue was kind of ugly, so I went with this sky blue alpaca/poly blend, same like my hat:

blue and brown

It’s a slightly different pattern, but it’s easier and faster than my hat, I think this whole hat only took about 2 hours total. And won’t we be so cute jumping around in the park with Daniel in our matchy match hats?

She asked for green and blue, and this is what I came up with:

green and blue

It’s sort of more green than blue, and it has a heart flower embroidered onto it. It’s big for her big head.

Jeesh.

I have been sitting here reading all kinds of different lists (here) for at least an hour and laughing my head off. Much to the annoyance of my couch-mate. It’s hard to ick a favourite as they are ALL awesome, believe me. Particularly these: Selected Minutes From Lolcat City Council Meetings, Haiku a Bitter Duck Might Write, Mundane Dreams, Habits That Are Harder to Break Than Peter Cetera’s Ex-Girlfriend and Things That Get Way More Fun When You Add a “G” to Them.

Seriously. Funny. I wish I had more time in my life. They actually make me a little angry that I am not that funny and could never come up with anything that clever.

At least I know how to crochet, right?

The sky was pretty tonight. While I am good at pointing out a pretty sky, I am less good at taking a picture of it.

pretty

The part I like are the reflections on the bricks from windows of another building. Two minutes after this was taken the sky was navy blue, then the sun disappeared.

How to have fun:

Due to excessive face painting, we needed to go to my old stomping grounds, Malabar, to buy more white. I had a feeling it would be a hit, and I was right. Doug was nice enough to let Ari try on costumes. Sometimes I really miss working there, people love trying on crazy stuff and it’s always good for a laugh.

too big!

She didn’t like any of the kid size stuff and was forced into adult costumes. Well, they still look great!

Shannon was really hoping it was for him (uh, it’s PINK, and everyone knows pink is for girls!) so I have to go out and get more yarn. Good thing it’s an easy pattern and only took a couple hours to work up, and I always love yarn shopping. I don’t have to work ’til 3pm today, and we are going swimming first, good!

Here’s another sign that I am getting old: I don’t understand the fashions of today. For instance: On the subway ride home there were two mid-teen girls who were both wearing mini shorts with lumberjack socks and one had moccasins on her feet, the other had Birkenstocks. Ugly as hell.

But before that, I saw this lovely lady walking in front of me. I started laughing out loud and tore through my purse to find my camera and I didn’t even bother turning off the flash to be surreptitious. Eff that, her shirt was screaming for a picture. My pleasure!

Ha! Ha!

It’s a little bunched up, so I will help: It reads “COMMING TO THE PARTY?”

Oh boy. That paired with the acid washed multi-ruffle mini skirt and smelly old flip flops, I’m going to decline the invitation.

Good news vs. Bad news

I had a great day. Seriously.

The three of us went out for lunch today at a funny little weiner restaurant that was pretty good, apart from the sporadic-at best-service. While there, I saw a flier for a farmer’s market that is reasonably close to where we live and was happening today.

SO, I rode my bike there and guess what? It was GREAT. The vendors were all really nice and the prices not too bad. I got a bunch of beets (yeah, beets, I love beets!), and bunch of rainbow swiss chard, a hunk of garlic/feta bread and a loaf of beet bread! Look how pretty it is!

YUM!

Then I rode my bike to Loblaws to get this hand soap that Emily has that she hates, but I love, but they didn’t have any, so I went to Zeller’s (where the lowest price is the law) and got some soap, a night light for the bathroom and 2 balls of alpaca (well, 30% alpaca, 70% acrylic, but it’s washable!) yarn (one brown and one pink) with a cute pattern on the label to make a bucket type hat. You must know how I feel about hats by now, right? I will tell you if you forgot: Pretty fucking good.

Yarny goodness

Then I came home and remembered I should mention something about the belt buckle I didn’t receive in the mail the other day. Shannon did, but he never ever wears belts so I have adopted it as my own. I like it because it’s simple and people won’t confuse me with someone who does know how to square dance (I have a square dance belt buckle too that I love). It’s from CJ who lives in Thailand via Dallas. Don’t ask. He’s a member of TSD and will hook (haha!) you up if you want. Maybe I put my belt on backwards, but the logo is upside down. That’s ok, I still like it.

TSD

(Yep, I have the same shirt as my mother, yay!)

Ok, so with a long run of good news, I was almost not going to post the bad news. But I have to, things are getting tense around here:

I have looked high and low for my hair iron. Seriously. I have searched in every drawer, every box, every storage thing, each bag, all closets and cupboards. I have looked in all the obvious places more than once, and the less obvious places too. It’s gone. I don’t want to buy a new one yet, because like my tweezerman tweezers that I lost and replaced, I don’t want to find it a week later in an incredibly obvious and stupid place (like under the stove or in a bucket of paint). If you own an iron because you thought, hey, I like smooth hair, but don’t use it and want to pay it forward to someone who does use them, please think of me. Times are getting rather desperate.

Big. Hair.

This is what it looks like. It’s freshly washed and has a LOT of gooey hair goop in it. Yet it’s still enormous. I hope someone out there loves me and feels pity.
