They’re grape

Posted by – 08/09/2008

I spent a couple days at my mom’s house, as you already know, and we went to the market early Saturday morning. The only thing I got there was a giant bag of grapes for $2. Oh, I got a quesadilla there too, but I ate that as we were walking. Anyway, the grapes are SO good. Real Niagara grapes, oh my, they really bring me back to my childhood. I think that was before they’d invented seedless globe grapes you get at the grocery store-which are nice too-but you can’t compare the flavour. These taste so intensely grape-y.

Mine all mine

I have no idea what kind of grapes they are, the purple ones are bigger and most likely juice grapes, maybe concords. Their flavour is so intense, and they have that texture, when they are squeezed and the middle pops out like an eyeball. The green ones might be champagne grapes, they are really small, tangier in taste and not as ‘snotty’ texturally as we used to say a million years ago.

Ari tried one and spat it out. Which is good news for me!

I found my calling!

Whoop!

I think Blitzkrieg Bop may be the 15th song in, which means it’s the less than 20th time I have played drums on Rockband. I used to refuse to do it because it looks ridiculous but it’s SO fun, now I want to learn drums for real. It’s so dumb, I’ve dated musicians and even a really good jazz drummer, and never took them up on offers of lessons. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Speaking of music lessons, I visited my high school on Friday and had a chat with my music teacher/neighbour, Steve Fralick. He’s a super awesome guy and I loved seeing him for the first time in about 15 years. He didn’t even recognize me at first, which I think is more due to the tattoos (I think he saw them first and just thought, hey, I don’t know anyone with tattoos) than anything else. I mean, I used to babysit his older kids and I am not that different looking, I don’t think…

A guessing game!

Yesterday I got to visit the babes. They are turning into proper people, it’s so awesome to be a witness to that. Bea has 2 teeth, teeny tiny white chiclets front and centre. They went for a dip yesterday in a hilariously small pool, which they love, and then Bea got to lick the lid of a visiting baby’s food jar. Mmmm, sweet corn casserole!

De-lish!

She could make anything look good!

Liza Minelli is going to be doing a concert here in Toronto at Roy Thompson hall and until tonight, I was excited. Then I looked at ticket prices. Yeah, Liza, I am a life long fan, for sure, but you are not worth $600. You aren’t even worth $343. I still love you, and I am sad your ticket prices are not more affordable. One day I would love to hear you sing “Maybe This Time” live.

Rich benefactor who loves show tunes, where are you???

Wow.
Quite possibly the funniest picture ever. Awesome that Liza looks the best of all of them.

I was fiddling with some new t shirt search site and stumbled upon Threadless, a site that really does do superior shirts. Shannon ordered a couple about a year ago for himself and Ari and I was totally jealous. Luckily they are having a huge back to school sale so I took advantage of that and ordered 2 for myself. I love secret glow in the dark shirts, so the first one I got is called Tief Fairies.  I am very much looking forward to marching (stumbling?) in the zombie walk this year, and that may have influenced my second choice, a shirt aptly named Vampire! which also has a super surprise ending.

I. Can’t. Wait. Til. They. Come.

Other than that, I am also getting anxious about my winter boots. Well, not anxious, EXCITED.

Note to self: must plan zombie costume.

bzzzzz

Blurry picture of my arm taken with my phone. It actually takes great pictures, just at a bit of a distance.

Ugh

I really don’t want to turn this blog into a place for me to do all my complaining, but for the past 24 hours the water in our apartment has been undrinkable. It started last night when I went to get a drink of water and it was smelly and tasted terrible, dirty, rusty, nasty. I complained to Shannon about it, then about an hour later I ran the water again, and this is what came out:

gross dirty nasty RUST!

The last picture is of the dregs at the bottom of the glasses after sitting on the counter all night. It’s rust. The water is running clear now but it still stinks and tastes sulfur-y. I called the complaint number for the apartment but it was a Sunday after hours and I had to leave a message.

And I don’t think I will hear back from them.
