Daddy took us to the zoo again

Posted by – 04/10/2008

We all piled into Joan’s shaggin’ wagon and headed off to the zoo today. It’s the perfect weather, cool but not cold, and slightly overcast but not raining. I love Autumn, I love everything about it.

First, at the zoo, we visited the manta ray bay, and I loved it. It’s incredible how friendly the mantas are, how willing they are to slow down and have a pat. A big one was pushing her head right out of the water, looking around.

Then we went to the kids zoo area, which I had never been through before, and it was great. Maybe my favourite part, which is funny, but I have been to the zoo so many times in my life, maybe I am a little jaded nowadays. Anyway, the kids part has farm animals and it makes me feel restless about our homestead.

The goats were having quite a battle, bashing heads and faking each other out while the bigger goat appeared to be coaching them. The pigs make me laugh, I love how they seem to be tottering around in high heels. There was an apple tree nearby and a couple apples were tossed in for each pig. I love skunks, they might be the prettiest creatures at the zoo, with their sweet pink noses. And, well, blue jay, you know, they are pretty evil birds but they sure do look nice.

As our trip was winding down, our last stop was the African Rain Forest pavilion. We decided to leave the rented wagon outside and when I went out to sit down, there was a peahen with her 3 children snuffling around the wagon, one child inside it. It was so cute, and a crowd was surrounding it, laughing. The peachicks are almost unbearably cute, with their silly feathers and topknots. I managed to snap a picture just as it was hopping out.

A fun trip, topped off with a swim in the indoor pool across the street.

Oh, and to add to my coolness, Inessa, who plays Dick’s girlfriend Annie on Cock’d Gunns, has commented on my blog too. Wow. They are starting to feel like family to me!

First off, there is no shaggin occurring within the confines of my wagon, so therefore it is not a “shaggin waggon” it is a very hip, very cool and ultramodern mom mobile
Second, I do agree that the stingrays looked very cool and felt neat to pet, and while a few were very friendly like the big one that poked her head right over the side, there still was the odd trouble maker in the lot.. Rude lil bastard soaked me right down to my underoos
Third, why was it that while I was inside the pavillion chasing toddlers you got the cook peacock experience? I feel cheated, but the pics make it a little bit better.
Fourth, I agree on the kids part of the zoo being the best part ever, with the exception of the ridiculously cute meerkats
And lastly, I know I’m not nearly as cool as someone from Cock’d Guns, but I am infamous for a killer TOS or two in my day..lol

I pretty much agree with your points, Joan, except that I know that Ari would take deep offense at being called a toddler.

I had a pot-bellied pig growing up, we always said he looked like a big fat man toppling around on stilettos. They are funny funny animals.

Busybee: You=Lucky. Pigs are so neat-o, I’d love to be friendly enough with one to kiss it.

i love reading you and shannon’s blogs. seriously. it’s amazing how only a few hundred miles seperates us but the culture is different in a million little ways. for instance – you referred to peacocks as peahens – which i know is totally commonplace for you but to me, i had no idea what you were talking about until i looked at the pictures and then i was i was like – oh. ha ha. the place my husband and i got married is loaded with a brood (not sure that’s the right term) of peacocks/peahens – about 50. amazing. and i also am curious – four political parties in canada? that is truly odd. we have mostly republican (conservatives) and democrats (liberals), there are the independent and such, but they aren’t really classified as parties, necessarily. at least not too officially. anyway. looks like a great time at the zoo. when the hubby and i finally make it up to canada, we’ll have to put it on our agenda of things to do. i’d really like to check out buskerfest (sp?) too.
