‘Fess up time

Posted by – 13/10/2008

I have eaten turkey dinner 2 nights in a row so my brain might not be functioning properly, but I have something I need to get off my chest:

I love Mariah Carey’s perfume. Well, maybe not the perfume, but her scented body lotion  (the pink one) is so awesome. I used it today at Shopper’s and sniffed my hands, easily, 100 times since. I might be forced to buy it. And while I don’t think Mimoo needs my financial support, it might be out of my control.

Tell me I am not the only person in the world with terrible taste in fragrance.

Old yeller

I love making noise. I used to scream a lot, I mean, a lot more than I do nowadays. Now I try to be respectful of my neighbours and people I live with. And dogs. There was even a friend request on Facebook that read “Wow! all the time i knew u u always had short sassy hair… we’d do those ultra high dog screams well sad 2 say, my voice ain’t capable of it anymore… :(” and reminded me about how much I love screaming.

Well, luckily, Nintendo DS Lite brings it all back. You yell at it! It’s so hilarious, in Brain Age you yell out colours, in Brain Age 2 you yell out paper/scissor/rock and in Guitar Hero you yell for starpower. It suggests hollering “ROCK ON” but I found “HEY!” works just as well.

The picture describing how to yell at your DS was too funny and took about a dozen dud pictures to finally get it right.

ROCK ON!

He looks so angry! And such a tiny head, at least, compared to my melon…

I got it in my head that I needed to start a new project, and as I have made at least a dozen hats in the last few months, I decided to make a scarf. Now, I have a bunch of scarves, most of them are very wintery, thick, long, good for wrapping several times and keeping my neck and ears warm. I wanted one that was lighter. So I looked all over Ravelry for a pattern that I liked, a free pattern, no luck. The pattern I liked best was not free at all. So I studied the picture, then found other free versions and wrote some stuff down, a little math, adding, multiplying and figured it all out. Of course, it took 2 false starts and frogging (it means tearing apart your stitches) it out, then I got it down.

Isn’t that yarn pretty? It’s very fine, probably the thinnest I have ever worked with, and a little fiddly. It’s sock yarn, haha, it would make some crazy socks, I guess. When I have finished, I will post a proper pattern.

Also on the books today: baking! I am going to my mom’s for Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday and she always has pumpkin pie (like everyone) for dessert and I hate pumpkin pie. It’s so gross, ugh, think about it, like baby shit in a pie crust, so I have to come up with an alternative. Which means scouring the internet for autumnal dessert recipes. Today I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and they are pretty good. More like mini cake blobs (cakies?) than cookies, but still, tasty. I am probably going to end up making pumpkin roll, which is totally incredible and better then day after it’s made, or pumpkin brownies.  Oh, they both look good!

With my by myself

Lots of things make me laugh. Yesterday I picked T (the woman I work for) up at her work and ended up waiting for her while she cleaned up the classroom. The wing of the school she works at is for pre-schoolers and there were self portraits hanging with the child’s name, favourite colour, things they like to do and things they are able to do on their own. Girls mostly answer ‘pink’ for colour.  Lots of kids had ‘get dressed’ as their answer for things they can do solo, and ‘play’ was probably the number 1 answer for things they like to do. It was pretty cute, and made me laugh. Some kids are better at colouring than others and a lot of the pictures looked totally bizarre and alien. I only managed to snap one picture with my phone:

If it hadn’t been for each child’s name, it would be impossible to figure out who’s who, I think.

Emily’s children also make me laugh. They are almost 1 now and are busy as beavers.

gabe gabe Beabea

I think they don’t like being strapped down. Bea looks pissed.

We almost always watch SNL, but it almost never makes me laugh. The most recent episode, with The Killers and Anne Hathaway, almost made me die laughing and I have had the song from the Lawrence Welk sketch in my head since.  Kristen Wiig really only does one character (weird, creepy, freaks out everyone else) but she does it really well. And the baby hand sent it over the top.

Em: please remind me to tell you about the zoo when I see you in 2 days.

This blog entry is bad. Sorry.

2 things

Posted by – 04/10/2008

1 I like birds because they do stuff that’s normal-eating, walking, running-and they do stuff that’s silly, but they don’t have facial expressions so they are like robots doing silly stuff. It almost makes it funnier because they just don’t get the joke, unlike dogs or pigs.

2 I found my hair iron! Seriously! 2 full months of crazy, unruly hair and it turned up in the linen closet under a pile of neatly rolled towels. Just like I knew it was, and I’d looked there 87 times but not hard enough. And I did my hair today and it looked spectacular. I also ironed Ari’s hair, and it also looked great. Although daddy wasn’t a fan, I think.

Daddy took us to the zoo again

We all piled into Joan’s shaggin’ wagon and headed off to the zoo today. It’s the perfect weather, cool but not cold, and slightly overcast but not raining. I love Autumn, I love everything about it.

First, at the zoo, we visited the manta ray bay, and I loved it. It’s incredible how friendly the mantas are, how willing they are to slow down and have a pat. A big one was pushing her head right out of the water, looking around.

Then we went to the kids zoo area, which I had never been through before, and it was great. Maybe my favourite part, which is funny, but I have been to the zoo so many times in my life, maybe I am a little jaded nowadays. Anyway, the kids part has farm animals and it makes me feel restless about our homestead.

The goats were having quite a battle, bashing heads and faking each other out while the bigger goat appeared to be coaching them. The pigs make me laugh, I love how they seem to be tottering around in high heels. There was an apple tree nearby and a couple apples were tossed in for each pig. I love skunks, they might be the prettiest creatures at the zoo, with their sweet pink noses. And, well, blue jay, you know, they are pretty evil birds but they sure do look nice.

As our trip was winding down, our last stop was the African Rain Forest pavilion. We decided to leave the rented wagon outside and when I went out to sit down, there was a peahen with her 3 children snuffling around the wagon, one child inside it. It was so cute, and a crowd was surrounding it, laughing. The peachicks are almost unbearably cute, with their silly feathers and topknots. I managed to snap a picture just as it was hopping out.

A fun trip, topped off with a swim in the indoor pool across the street.

Oh, and to add to my coolness, Inessa, who plays Dick’s girlfriend Annie on Cock’d Gunns, has commented on my blog too. Wow. They are starting to feel like family to me!

Dessert

Supper was a bit of a bust for the women in the house, so we over compensated by making rice crispy treats. Guess who picked the colour.

mmmm

I also visited Emily and the babies, who seem to grow funnier and cuter every time I go. It’s amazing how different they each are, and we’d wondered, when she was pregnant and knew that one was a girl, one a boy, how they would develop differently. They are totally different, night and day, but they are both awesome, sweet, funny and totally lovable.
