woo, I’m not alone! I didn’t mind the end sentiment of the book, but the rest was just too ridiculous.

hmmmm, I have a vcr! and I read all of the Flowers in the Attic books! do you have an email address where I could send my postal address? or email mine and I’ll email ya back.

Oh, is ‘hosebeast’ a Dickensian insult?

Spunky, you got it right about Fall on your Knees. I hated it too, I don’t think I got past the first page, it was so eye rollingly terrible. Which is weird, I love her play Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet. LOVE it.

I loved VC Andrews when I was in junior high. I actually have Flowers in the Attic on VHS, it’s so awful and wonderful and perverse, if anyone wants it, I will mail it to you-we don’t have a vcr anymore.

I did not read Interview With the Vampire but I did fall asleep watching the movie. Also, a few years ago Anne Rice made this big proclamation while reviewing her own book on Amazon that people who didn’t like her writing didn’t understand its “Dickensian quality.” She then left her email address for anyone to respond. I emailed her and called her a hosebeast. She called me vulgar. This is one of my favourite stories to tell about books.

I tried to read Interview with a Vampire. totally dreadful.

speaking of bad but popular books, I read Fall on Your Knees, by Ann-Marie MacDonald (before it was an Oprah pick) and it was one of the worst books I have ever read in my life. and I know lots of really smart, cool women who have read it and loved it. but the tone was awful, the storyline seems to have been written by VC Andrews, and well it was just awful. I’m still the only person I know who freaking HATED that book.

Okay, except that the guy playing him in the movies (from what I can see in the commercials for them) is GROSS. Or at least not very conventionally handsome. And smirking is NOT an attribute I look for in a man.
Dani and all the gang (I’m assuming Bob declined to go, but who knows?) went to the midnight opening of the movie. I haven’t heard from them yet, but I will be sure to let you know their opinion.
The irritating thing about the books for me, is that Dani kept going on about how many pages they were. “Brogan is reading these like, 600 page books, and now so am I! We’re reading like you do!” And they aren’t really understanding the quality over quantity thing. Yes, they LOOK big, but really…
And now I realize I am sounding like a book snob. Which I totally am not. I am happy whenever people read ANY book, seeing as there’s such a lack of that these days.

But the Anne Rice thing, yeah. I don’t know why I never read them. I read her Mayfair witch trilogy, and I guess that kind of turned me off from her. You can only read so many incestuous sex scenes before they get a little ho-hum.

Well, my review might not amount to much more than “this book is dumb and boring and if you like it you are also dumb and boring”. Which isn’t entirely fair.

And reading further, I realize my mainly problem is that Edward is rude. He’s constantly angry, raising his voice, smirking. Who in the world wants a boyfriend like that, hot or otherwise???

I’ve been debating on whether or not to read the Twilight series. I kept thinking they can’t be that good if all these teenagers are reading them. I’ll be looking forward to your review.

She DOES have dreadful taste in books. All her books are very, hm, Lite Reading.
I never read the Anne Rice series, though I’ve been meaning to. Just never got around to it, and I figure that must have cost me some demerit points when I was a goth in high school.

Ali, your sister really is ga-ga over this book. I find that very…weird. Dani, I doubt you read this, and I like you, but your taste in books is dreadful.

Rach, did you read/enjoy Interview with a Vampire? It was so hot when I was in high school and I tried to read it, but I found that book equally terrible. I mean, completely unreadable. But other than Emily, I might be in the minority on that. Might be that I just don’t like vampires!
