On my way to meet an old friend (as in, we met at camp in grade 6) for lunch today, I got stopped at a long light which annoyed me at first, but then I got super excited when I realized what the car with the weird contraption on the roof was:
Can you see it? It’s a Google Street vehicle! Luckily he had to wait to turn which afforded me the time to grab my camera and take a quick picture. Yes, I also waved :)
The street view hasn’t turned up on google maps for Toronto yet, but when it does I’m for SURE looking for my blurred out face! There’s a closeup after the jump if you care.

Don’t worry, you’re not the only geek, the first thing I noticed in the picture was the google sign on the door and my first thought was “sweet, street view in Toronto”.

Lucky you – they never come to St. Catharines. Wonder what that means. Perhaps when the zombie apocalypse comes they won’t find us because we’re not even on the map. Whew!!
Ari and I discuss the upcoming zombie apocalypse a lot. Luckily the google street views haven’t gone online yet, so I won’t worry until they do!
This is kind of related but not really. Someone at UofT (I think) has been trying to make a map of Toronto for an add-on to the game Half Life. We’ve been waiting for that to come out forever.

i love that the car is so plain with that shit strapped to the roof. you’d think they’d go for something a little more flash…like a crazy google hummer or a souped up hybrid or something :)
It seems that they’re always boring, drab cars. I am guessing it’s so people don’t attack them or go nuts? Who knows. Or maybe it’s the driver’s own car with the cameras attached to the top.
The google car was in kingston and it freaked people out… I guess we don’t get that many google cars out here.
