So, just to mess with everyone’s head a little more (and especially mine) I made little mini quilt squares this morning to fiddle around a little, easier than spreading the entire thing out on the floor (in reality, each square is 8.5″ each side).

In order (as in, continuing from the first three)

There. Imagine the black ones have the ring pattern, ok? Personally I am leaning towards #5 (because then I don’t have to cut new blocks, haha, LAZY!) or #4, and I will have to cut new blocks. But I have it laid out right now with an orange border and black binding and it looks super. I’m willing to do that extra work.

I also like #10.

Hot day here. I was wearing jeans until I practically melted.

We’re doing fireworks later, after the sun sets. There’s a mountain of them-I left the store so I wouldn’t hear the total bill-and I’m excited. At the firework store, which doubles as a costume store, I took this picture:

It’s wrong on pretty much every level. Politically AND spellingly.

Decisions, decisons

The original fabric I was going to use for the background of this quilt did not work out so well (it was a black light weight denim) so I had to do some quick improv. I wound up getting fabric at Ikea because…well, because it’s cheap there. I couldn’t make up my mind, like, when does that ever happen? So I went with black, orange and yellow.

Yeah.

Now I can’t decide how to organize them. Here’s where you come in.

#1 was my original plan and then I turned a couple of the blocks and came up with #2. Then  I wondered if it was a little busy, so I made a checkerboard, #3. I just don’t know.

The further possibilities (although time is a huge factor, I’ll be sewing on Tuesday) are to get rid of a colour (probably the orange) and just do a black and yellow checkerboard or stripes or…Agg. It’s endless. And  I wish I’d also bought red fabric.

Help? Mommy? Anyone?

Sewing, sewing, sewing. Ironing, cutting, bandaging blisters and more sewing. Yes, I have a blister on my pinkie finger. From scissors. I’m intense, it seems, with shears. Today I spent about 3 hours at the workroom organizing my previously sewn together bits  which were then pressed open with spray starch and a dry iron. Sorted together into stacks of three-random with no repeats-and sew together in chains.

Here’s a big chunk of chain, once I got the ball rolling:

It looks like a lot because it really is a lot. I used 50 strips of fabric sewn together in 2′s, then traced and cut out 10 double pieces then sewed 3 double pieces together.  Somehow, when I do the math, it doesn’t come out even, but it DID somehow, come out with no extras. I like that. My quilt will have 9 solid rings.

And boy, do I like the workroom. It’s so pretty and refreshing and there’s Maisy saying hello and hoping for a tasty morsel. I did bring tasty morsels, but nothing for a dog.

Walked home via Dufferin Mall and ironed all my new seams flat. Washing the background fabric so it’s nice and fresh for Thursday.

All weekend

On Friday I went to see my first Jays’ game of the season. It was freezing cold up in the nose bleeds, wind gusting and T and I snuggled up. It was one heck of a game, Jays won 16-10, so that was exciting. And the young couple beside us who’d smuggled in their own booze and fought like crazy the whole time.

All for $11 a ticket. Cheap thrills, kids.

And then we went bowling on Saturday (for my birthday) with a friend of Ari’s who kicked everybody’s ass. Have you ever been trounced by a 7 year old at a bowling alley? Next time we’re playing 10 pin and we’ll see what’s what.

Also, Shannon and I completely forgot to see David Copperfield on Thursday. I’m trying not to cry.

That’s me on my way to class at the workroom. Started my double wedding ring quilt, I have a terrible feeling I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.

Turning 38 is much worse than turning 37. It’s been a hell of a year, lemme tell you. I’d write the details, but it’s my birthday and I want to stay in a good mood.

This year I got the biggest gifts-a Mustang and a refrigerator. Yep.

And flowers, the prettiest bouquet I have ever seen. All my favourites are bunched in there-and if anyone could tell me what the dark purple ones are (no, not the irises), they look like lupins but they’re not lupins, please tell me.

Nice way to greet  the day.

Thanks to everyone that made it a memorable birthday! And thanks for the outpouring of love, right back at ya!

Knee update

It’s looking better although it’s got a long way to go before I’ll feel normal. It actually reminds me of my childhood, was there a time when I didn’t have some major scab action happening? Shannon can’t see the bruising irl but I sure can.

No, I didn’t fiddle the colour in this picture, just corrected the levels.

Still sore. And numb. Pretty much the bruising is where it’s numb.

Good thing my favourite colour is yellow!

Proof.

I’ve always been this cool. And here’s how you can tell: I went to see The Who in 1989 when I was 17. It was at the CNE when the Grandstand was still open, that’s where the Blue Jays played before the Skydome opened. It was an amazing place for concerts, it’s also where I saw the first Lollapalooza (yes, with NIN and Jane’s and Bodycount and…) and Neil Young. It’s sucks that it’s gone.

Gosh, $34.50 to see The Who? I wish I could remember this show better. I went with Patsy, who I am still friends with.

Man.

I guess this also proves I never throw anything out.

But just a bit

I went to Niagara Falls, NY on Thursday. My mom took me cross border shopping, it was great. Got some alsome scores at my beloved Target (I mean, 100 antihistamines for just over $4? Heck yes!) and we had lunch at a sweet restaurant called “Mom’s”. See? For Mother’s Day? Haha, right? The joke was on us, the food was terrible.

Oh. Yes, I got a Liberty of London basket thing. And zebra stripe shoes. And crazy flavour changing gum that’s totally mental.

Then we drove past what has to be the biggest concentration of no-tell motels in the world. This one’s my very favourite:

Love it. Love that it’s just a bit of Paris. Not too much. I mean, come on, how much Paris do you really need?

Went to see IronMan 2 tonight, it was good. I fell asleep for a little bit, but not all of it. A good sign.

And my knee’s a mess. I actually went to the dr today to have him look at it. There’s nerve damage that’s worrisome. But there’s nothing to be done anyway. And even if I did want painkillers, it turns out he’s no longer allowed to prescribe them. Sigh.

Latest project

Posted by – 05/05/2010

I decided to use up my scraps from my original sampler quilt to do an English paper piecing project. It’s a lot of cutting, pinning, cutting, basting, organizing and sewing. And it’s double the amount of basting for me because-guess what!-I don’t like to read instructions and did them totally wrong.

It’s tiny, that whole thing measures maybe 8″x10″. Pathetic. Well, I have lots of them assembled, I just need to make a million of the inbetweeners, the white with pink and red flowers. It will be finished one day when I am an old (er) lady.

And I was sick all day. Just, you know, for extra sympathy.
