School is great. Professor Snape is teaching potions again this year, so I have nothing to worry about. No major mishaps on the Hogwarts express either.

Awesome, eh? So at soccer practice (or whatever sport they’re up to), good old Coach Katie had a laugh with one confused Caitlin.

And I got another email today, reminding me of practices. I can’t be bothered to write her again, I think I couldn’t do it without extreme sarcasm.

Poor old Michael Jackson. Even a year after his death they haven’t found his nose.

The first one was for Saira and Michael’s baby, Kiran. Yes, I’d made her a sweater too and given the quilt over at the baby shower, but I hadn’t actually finished it completely, so I took it back home and it sat for a while. Spurred by my last visit there, I got up off my duff and bound the shit out of it. It’s done and it’s awful cute.

Now don’t be asking me what the different fabrics are: I don’t know. I’m not fussy/obsessive about that sort of thing, ok? The pictures don’t really do it justice anyway, it’s way bright, the binding is mustard yellow bandanna print fabric. I used variegated thread on the top to quilt it and red on the back. I don’t have a walking foot so it’s a little lumpy.

The quilt I made and finished and shipped off to Meeps, I forgot to take pictures of. Maybe if I asked Ashley nicely she’d post one.

And finally, I don’t know who this is for, I was inspired by various flickr groups and realized that a zig-zag quilt would be super easy, so I crunched some numbers (and flopped all my fabric stash around a lot) and came up with this:

The orange, black and white with orange/pink/black are all from Ikea, while the tiny floral pink fabric is from India, I got it from a vendor at a trunk show at the workroom. I’m planning on using light pink to make a border (or sashing, right?) and then more of the same orange to bind. Light pink again for the back, or maybe dark pink. We’ll see!

I had a long day: worked out at the gym until I thought I broke something inside, subway to Yonge and Bloor and then I walked home. It’s about 6km if I include all the extra walking I did, roaming in shops and grocery stores and pit stopping at the library for a pee. Funny how the pillow case and the tattoos all sort of blend together.

Big day tomorrow.

And even on a sunny Saturday afternoon we only had to wait one song to hop on.

Ari took a few minutes to test out horses before going with a dark charcoal one with a long, real horsehair, tail. She rode a couple more times after that, picking different horses each time.

I was very happy to see these three fellows that have been around that park since I was a kid. I wonder how many times they’ve been repainted.

They’re garbage bins, if you couldn’t tell. I wish I had these at my house!

And let me tell ya, my arm is tired. Final score? 8-1 for the Jays! Yahoo!

The seats weren’t perfect, I guess. We were pretty far out to the left (or is it right?) field and couldn’t see the Jumbotron. Oh well. It was still better than nosebleeds!

I also spent a while trying on Jays baseball hats, I really want one but they were either outrageously expensive (I mean, really? $47 for a CAP??!?) or had a velcro closure that ripped out my hair. Or were too small for my giant head. So I looked online and found a couple that I’ll never order, including this one.  It is described as such:

The 2008 MLB “Stars and Stripes” cap by New Era features a light navy crown and visor, with the teams primary logo embroidered with a US flag design. The MLB logo on the back is also embroidered with the “Stars and Stripes” pattern. Which I don’t have a problem with, except that it has a Canadian flag design. So. Yeah.

(And I am not a huge fan of the newer Jays logo anyway, I want old skool.)

Yesterday I made pickled beets. I used this recipe and it’s seriously perfect. To think I was going to halve the recipe? I should have doubled it, Shannon’s already eaten half a jar.

Three jars. I expect them to be empty by the week’s end.

Today I made blueberry jam because blueberries are on sale and what is a girl to do with 4 cup of berries? Freezer jam. The direction was ‘crush’ the berries and I considered whizzing them in the blender but ended up just mashing them with my hands so it will be very chunky jam.

With crepes wrapped around giant blobs of it, I am very certain it will be most delicious.

Also of note, I saw an extremely cute car on my way to the grocery store and found out that Spongebob shills for corn watermelon.

If I were to send an open invitation for a canning party, here at my place (I have 2 kitchens and buckets of space) would anyone out there be interested?

Also, what can anyone tell me about Athens, Georgia? I have been looking at real estate there and for some reason I’ve got it in my head that it’s where I must live. Is it nice there?

This is stealing. And the donations that are left strewn about are usually ruined by the weather making them unsellable too.

I did find some treasures today and if they’d been priced a little lower, they’d be with me right now. The first is this beautiful green sculpture which is reminiscent of my high school project called Reclining Poo (which, incidentally, I broke, glued back together and still have!).

Hand made, can you tell? Only $2.99. In hindsight, it almost seems worth it.

This next guy is made of painted pebbles and he has a yarn cravat:

He’s exactly as cute as you think he is. Also $2.99.

And this pig. I used to collect pig things when I was a kid, this is something I would have begged for.

I resisted this time.

I did get some good scores, 2 plaques and a small trophy AND a copy of Gobblet, a game we’ve had the Jr version of for a while. And really, I only paid $5 for all that stuff, so maybe saying everything is over priced there is an exaggeration.

Here’s a big chunk of chain, once I got the ball rolling:

It looks like a lot because it really is a lot. I used 50 strips of fabric sewn together in 2′s, then traced and cut out 10 double pieces then sewed 3 double pieces together.  Somehow, when I do the math, it doesn’t come out even, but it DID somehow, come out with no extras. I like that. My quilt will have 9 solid rings.

And boy, do I like the workroom. It’s so pretty and refreshing and there’s Maisy saying hello and hoping for a tasty morsel. I did bring tasty morsels, but nothing for a dog.

Walked home via Dufferin Mall and ironed all my new seams flat. Washing the background fabric so it’s nice and fresh for Thursday.

All for $11 a ticket. Cheap thrills, kids.

And then we went bowling on Saturday (for my birthday) with a friend of Ari’s who kicked everybody’s ass. Have you ever been trounced by a 7 year old at a bowling alley? Next time we’re playing 10 pin and we’ll see what’s what.

Also, Shannon and I completely forgot to see David Copperfield on Thursday. I’m trying not to cry.
