Category: a good day

All weekend

On Friday I went to see my first Jays’ game of the season. It was freezing cold up in the nose bleeds, wind gusting and T and I snuggled up. It was one heck of a game, Jays won 16-10, so that was exciting. And the young couple beside us who’d smuggled in their own booze and fought like crazy the whole time.

All for $11 a ticket. Cheap thrills, kids.

And then we went bowling on Saturday (for my birthday) with a friend of Ari’s who kicked everybody’s ass. Have you ever been trounced by a 7 year old at a bowling alley? Next time we’re playing 10 pin and we’ll see what’s what.

Also, Shannon and I completely forgot to see David Copperfield on Thursday. I’m trying not to cry.

That’s me on my way to class at the workroom. Started my double wedding ring quilt, I have a terrible feeling I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.

Turning 38 is much worse than turning 37. It’s been a hell of a year, lemme tell you. I’d write the details, but it’s my birthday and I want to stay in a good mood.

This year I got the biggest gifts-a Mustang and a refrigerator. Yep.

And flowers, the prettiest bouquet I have ever seen. All my favourites are bunched in there-and if anyone could tell me what the dark purple ones are (no, not the irises), they look like lupins but they’re not lupins, please tell me.

Nice way to greet  the day.

Thanks to everyone that made it a memorable birthday! And thanks for the outpouring of love, right back at ya!

Fun for all

It’s exciting when a new tattoo shop opens, especially when there is free beer involved. Oh, and sushi and vegan cupcakes-not that I ate any of those. Bill Baker has finally opened the doors to his new place, The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop and Tattoos. It’s a catchy name, I know. And they’ve done an amazing  job on renovations and decorations. It’s probably the prettiest shop in town, seriously. Stupidly, I only took one picture last night, I was having that much fun.

Exterior:

Not that Bill or Daniel or Glennie need my wishes of good luck (and not that I believe in luck anyway)-all three of them are incredibly talented. So, I guess it’s lots of love and see you soon!

Also, these crackers gave me the giggles yesterday.

Hee hee!

Happy (early) birthday to me

I was not expecting this, especially considering I don’t even drive. At all. Not even  G1.

Very exciting, indeed. It’s 1973 Mustang and it’s pretty much huge.  My first whip.

Thanks and love to Shannon, who else?

Gymrat

I’m still going to the gym three times a week. More or less. Or less. And according to Shannon I’m not pushing myself hard enough and that’s why I’m not getting any skinnier. I wonder how that can be, considering the sweat that happens and the sore legs/arms/body in general. I think I must need a personal trainer to push me in the right direction.

I am getting better at running. Maybe I do like it?

Well, I do like my new gym clothes. I hate yoga pants, all droopy and floppy, they are no good at all for running or cycling.

I was watching Liza Minnelli’s live show, Liza with a Z, filmed in 1972-the year I was born. It was directed by Bob Fosse who was a genius when it comes to movement. Of course, I was loving it very much, it’s the music of my youth and it was Liza…I mean, LIZA! I was thinking “who wouldn’t love this?” then I felt the hate emanating from the other half of the couch. It was palpable, Shannon dislikes this sort of thing that much. He was practically cringing in misery. Out of sympathy I did change the channel, I can watch Liza do her thing any old time.

For real. Blackbird? Yes please.

Ring Them Bells? Don’t mind if I do.

Did I ever tell the story about the time my friend Igor, who at the time I’d known for 10 years,  suddenly said that despite the length of our friendship had no idea what kind of music I was into. It’s a touchy subject, really. If I flat out say Broadway musicals, people think I am crazy or kidding. And it’s true, I like other music too, all kinds. Heck, we’re going to see Maiden in the summer and I am psyched. But if I had to pick one music based radio station for eternity, it would probably be the Broadway station on Sirius.

And I am not ashamed.

Ok. I have a question, who do you think is the modern day version of Liza Minnelli? Is it Madonna? In 1972 was Liza considered cool or was she…strictly for the card carrying seniors?

Pee. Or poop.

Gee wizz indeed. It would be fun to work there because you’d get to answer the phone “Gee wizz! How can I direct your call?” Is it strange that I appreciate port-a-potty art? There’s another company that I see around town with a bear running on it and it’s pretty much the funniest cartoon ever.

Would a devout christian be offended by this?

I’m going out shortly for nachos with my home girls.  Well. King’s Crown and wings. And maybe a celebratory beer or two. Nothing like good news from divorce lawyers to fill me with cheer.

Hockey Night in Toronto

I hadn’t seen a live Leafs game in years, not since they’d moved out of The Gardens so I was totally psyched when my boss offered me her extra ticket. So psyched that Shannon and I came home a day early from Vancouver.

We had nosebleed seats and I quickly realized that I had No Idea who plays on either team. Not one name was familiar. Who are the heroes  nowadays? Where is the Wendel Clarke? The Darryl Sittler? Rick Vaive? Dougie Gilmour?

Am I showing my age?

We still had fun. We got carded for beer-neither of us had proper id either-so that was pretty good. Getting carded when you’re 22 is annoying and embarrassing but getting carded when you’re 37 is pretty sweet. And there was a very exciting and somewhat scary fight, not on the ice, but in the stands right behind us, between disgruntled fans.

Us trying not to be scared of a fully grown man being shoved and falling ass over tea kettle down the rather steep seats.

Well. Anyway, I know I say it all the time but I totally love my job and I love my boss very much.

Work, work, work

That’s all I do.

Well. Not really. But because I don’t technically work many hours, I try to keep busy doing other stuff during the day so I don’t feel like an entire waste of time. Knitting, cooking, baking, sewing, all that kind of good stuff. And once the weather is a tiny bit warmer, I plan on roller skating daily.

Yesterday, I made myself a new key ring. It might sound a little weird, but I sewed a little pouch to put pot pourri in, popped a grommet on and threw it onto a key ring. Of course, I was flat out of pot pourri, so I improvised a little: I used a teabag! HA! A Bengal Spice teabag to be precise, and it smells amazing, as does my purse.

Yum.

Hung with love beside my Olympic schwag key ring.

I also saw The Runaways tonight. Made me wish I was 16 again and full of piss and vinegar. Fuck, man. I missed out on all the cool eras, I was too young for the original punk scene, too old to rave. Too young for glam rock, too old for…emo? Twilight? Maybe it’s not such a bad thing.

Grr.

Angry because my computer crashed and I hadn’t saved my blog post about our trip to Vancouver. It wasn’t big, no, but still.

Anyway, it was a good trip, I loved the hotel we stayed at just because it was new and uber swanky. So swanky there were extremely fancy cars always parked outside-like the brand new Aston Martin the first day.  So new, in fact, that they were still ironing out a bunch of kinks, one of which meant that we had a pretty messy room for a couple days because we couldn’t get the maid signal to work. And the pool hadn’t even been built yet. But still, worth what we paid.

And very close to the Olympic torch, so that was cool too. Across the road:

Olympical

You could get close enough to feel the heat from the flames.

I’d blog more but the intense fight happening next door is so very distracting. I’m glad Ari isn’t home yet to listen to the ugliness…

I got the ring I ordered from Midwest Alchemy in the mail today, it’s awesome. I’d always wanted a ring with emeralds-my birth stone-and now I have it.

Ring-a-ding-ding

And if anyone was wondering, my birthday is exactly 2 months from today. Get crackin’!
