Packing heat

Posted by – 19/12/2009

We’re getting ready to take off for a few days over xmas. Because we’ve taken so many trips in the last year, it’s become easier for me, I no longer make lists of what to bring-it’s second nature now. I also keep vacation stuff (passports, goggles, miniature toiletries) all together to keep things simple. The only thing is that I do still tend to over (and occasionally under) pack for trips bringing clothes that I don’t end up wearing.

If we’re allowed to go. If, if, if. I never believe we’re going anywhere-and refuse to get too excited about anything-until we’re actually on the plane.

suitcase full of sunshine

I should take another picture when we get home and it’s all balled up and covered in white sand. And smells like sweat and spf40.

Today was a good day, I had a tattoo consult with Bill and we’re going to get together in the new year to get back to work on my right arm. It took me years to figure out what I wanted to do in the negative space and I finally got it. He seemed happy enough with the design and I am very happy about it.  Plus I love to hang out with Bill because he’s very funny and friendly and full of great stories.

Then I ate lunch at Big Fat Burrito and was not disappointed. My goodness, SO GOOD. I had a small yam burrito with everything and burrito sauce. To. Die. For. I should have ordered a large…drooling just thinking about it now.  There are some things I could eat almost daily, and that burrito was one of them. Perfection.

I got new shades too, since I’d lost my green G4K pair and was reduced to wearing the black wrap arounds that came free with our Hallowe’en contacts. These new ones are ok, they were only $5, but my hair’s already been ripped out by the metal logos pinned to the sides. Stupid knock-off D&G.

Pink shades

Big glasses for a giant head.

Now I have to decide on entertainment for the trip, which yarn/needles to bring and books. And my DS, it’s always good. And I have to remember to get fish food blocks tomorrow. Gosh.

Someone has a new best friend.

Remember Puppers? He thinks Shannon is the business. He licked Shannon’s arms so much that I do believe that the tattoos have faded. What a sweet dog and what a lovely family Ashley has.

Thank you times eleventy million for your hospitality (AND those steaks, WOW.)

Hey, ladies, it’s shower time!

Went to my homegirl’s bridal shower today. It’s only the second one I’ve been to in my entire life so I never know what to expect-much less what to bring. This one was an easy one, no games or ribbon bonnet-WOO WOO-and finger sandwiches, fruit skewers and cupcakes. Wine spritzers. I love drinking-everyone knows that-and if I have 2 drinks in the afternoon I get the itch for more and now I wish we lived next to the LCBO. Just as well that we don’t.

I guess.

Anyway, it was nice to hang out with one of my favourite girls in the world (that would be Libs) and her mom, aunt and friends I’ve never met before.

red undies

Holy sexy undies. They were the only cliche gift she got, haha.

I’m super excited about her wedding! I guess I’d best start looking for a dress, asap!

Beautiful Sunday

I just got back from the briefest visit ever from Nicole. Please feel free to go to her shop and buy lots of stuff. She had a necklace for me that is so incredible, every detail of it is amazing, thanks Cole. I just need to figure out how it’s worn to show off all the lampwork beads.

On my way back upstairs (to the mess, mid move is hell) I dashed out back to the variety store and there was a little girl with a bucked of soap and a home made bubble blower. I happened to have my camera with me and she was happy to have her picture taken.

bubbly

She said she’d made the soap herself, I do wonder what was in that bucket. When the giant bubble popped, the soap sat on the grass, almost like plastic wrap. It was so cool, I wish Ari had seen it!

Yarn! In the mail!

Posted by – 30/03/2009

Does life get any better than getting  yarn in the mail? For me, not really-especially after yesterday, the world’s shittiest day. Jana sent it to me, now I have to figure out what to do with it.

yellow and lavender

So gorgeous.  Crochet season is actually winding up for me (especially now that I have a new obsession) so I have to decide on something good quickly!

Over too quickly

Remember last year when I went to the orphan’s Superbowl party? That happened again this past weekend.

I left early Sunday morning-my train was at 7:50am-and was picked up by my friends Karen and Greg. We got coffees and went to Karen’s to get all caught up and laugh our heads off.

Then Karen drove me to Rob and Shirann’s house where I finally met their baby girl Ruby who was born last October. She is such a sweet baby, mellow and happy. It was hard to hand her back to her mom when it was time to go to the big party.

Big? Well, there were lots of kids and a bunch of moms, so that was good. And again, really great to see old friends. Kim gave me a handmade garter for my wedding and we ate chili and spinach dip and cookies.

Then I slept over at Rob’s, played with the baby all morning, until my friend Jill called and we went to Target! Yay, Target! I got some stuff, mostly junkfood, but I love junk.  And I got a shirt at Forever 21, a store I would like more if they didn’t put John 3:16 on the bottom of their bags.

I got home last night around 11, so it was a brief trip. I am hoping some people get to Toronto soon. I think if Shirann lived closer to me she’d be my other best girlfriend…

Ruby is the squishiest baby ever:

So cute!

Dreams

Posted by – 31/01/2009

Lately all of my dreams combine crocheting and New Super Mario Bros., which I have been playing on my DS non stop for the last week. It’s the best game and I will be sad when I finish it-not that it’s likely that I ever will, I am terrible at video games in general. We didn’t have a computer or a gaming console of any kind at my house growing up and I think, when you’re a kid, that’s when you learn how to press x fast.

Mushroom, 1-up, single chain, scarf. That’s what my dreams are like.

I am going to Windsor for the annual Superbowl orphans party. It’s been a year since I was there last and it’s super nice the way my friends there are clamoring for the opportunity to hang out. Really nice! I am making cookies to bring, but I don’t think they are turning out very well. So, I guess I am not much of a baker either.

Here’s what I am making:

Caramel Crinkles

ingredients

1 box white cake mix

1/2 Cup vegetable oil

2 eggs

1 package Skor bits

Icing sugar

Mix the cake mix, oil, eggs and Skor bits together. Dust your hands with icing sugar and roll the dough into 1″ balls, roll the balls in the icing sugar and put on a non stick cookie sheet 2″ apart. Bake 8-10 minutes at 350.

white balls

See? It sounds so easy, and they taste REALLY good, they just don’t look very pretty. I think this batch I will let cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before I transfer them too the cooling rack.

crinkles

And they smell AMAZING!

This was taken when I was in grade 10 at the Dr.Disc we all hung out at in St. Catharines. I am wearing one of my dad’s sport coat jackets and a plaid scarf that I used to spritz with Ralph Lauren’s Polo at the drug store whenever I went with my friend Kathy Rose. This was 1987 ok? The drawing I did last summer isn’t too inaccurate, is it? My best friend Teilhard took it, and as you can tell, I hate getting my picture taken, so this was me being very reluctant. Or, perhaps, being a rebel, haha.

it’s me, no kidding

Anyway, thanks for sending me this picture, Teilhard. I am glad I found you after all these years!

Daddy took us to the zoo again

Posted by – 04/10/2008

We all piled into Joan’s shaggin’ wagon and headed off to the zoo today. It’s the perfect weather, cool but not cold, and slightly overcast but not raining. I love Autumn, I love everything about it.

First, at the zoo, we visited the manta ray bay, and I loved it. It’s incredible how friendly the mantas are, how willing they are to slow down and have a pat. A big one was pushing her head right out of the water, looking around.

splashy

Then we went to the kids zoo area, which I had never been through before, and it was great. Maybe my favourite part, which is funny, but I have been to the zoo so many times in my life, maybe I am a little jaded nowadays. Anyway, the kids part has farm animals and it makes me feel restless about our homestead.

goats piggie smalls is the illest pretty ladies egg thief

The goats were having quite a battle, bashing heads and faking each other out while the bigger goat appeared to be coaching them. The pigs make me laugh, I love how they seem to be tottering around in high heels. There was an apple tree nearby and a couple apples were tossed in for each pig. I love skunks, they might be the prettiest creatures at the zoo, with their sweet pink noses. And, well, blue jay, you know, they are pretty evil birds but they sure do look nice.

As our trip was winding down, our last stop was the African Rain Forest pavilion. We decided to leave the rented wagon outside and when I went out to sit down, there was a peahen with her 3 children snuffling around the wagon, one child inside it. It was so cute, and a crowd was surrounding it, laughing. The peachicks are almost unbearably cute, with their silly feathers and topknots. I managed to snap a picture just as it was hopping out.

peachick

A fun trip, topped off with a swim in the indoor pool across the street.

Oh, and to add to my coolness, Inessa, who plays Dick’s girlfriend Annie on Cock’d Gunns, has commented on my blog too. Wow. They are starting to feel like family to me!

My cool quotient just went up again

Do you watch the show Cock’d Gunns? I watched it by accident during my trip to Windsor a few months ago, and I am totally addicted to it now. It’s crazy silly and completely hilarious. Plus I love that it’s filmed in Toronto and trying to figure out where they are. I think their house is in Parkdale, although it could be Little Portugal.

I’d found Dick Van Gunn on fb a while ago, after I’d joined the fb fanclub for Cock’d Gunns. I asked about shirts and he messaged me that, yeah, I could have one, so I sent him my details and voila, the next day, a shirt! Super major thanks to him, indeed, especially because I got a shirt before their drummer, Barry, got one. Special me.

Cock’d Gunns

Not a very pretty picture, it was first thing in the morning before I’d showered and put on my face. Thanks to Shannon for airbrushing out my pms induced zit.
