I’m done cutting my blocks! Woo! It took 2 days and 2 rotary cutter blades and lots of swear words but I did it. I’m doing a basic 9 patch because, frankly, I like it’s simplicity. It’s classic and it looks great, especially with nice fabrics that deserve showcasing. Each block will have 2 6.5″ squares and 2 2.5″x9 squares. Because I’m using the heart block I already made for the centre, I needed 24 different fabrics, a little math and voila, nothing is repeated!

So, I don’t know if you can tell right away, but I labeled each block with a number/letter, then went through them and shifted everything by 1 twice (oh, how can this already be confusing?) so block A has A, B, C in it, block B is B, C, D, block C is C, D, E and so on to the end where block X goes back to X, A, B.

Now does it make more sense? I might even start sewing tomorrow, we’ll see how I feel.

In gaming news, I’m in the middle of Lego Harry Potter on DS (it’s not great, Batman and Indiana Jones were way better), Lego Batman on PS3 (love it!) and the latest Mystery Case Files on this, my laptop. I subscribe to the emails so when I found out the latest case had been released, I sucked it up and threw it onto PayPal. It was awesome, unsurprisingly, and I finished it in record time. Then I somehow erased it, BOO!

Darn iphone, I’m hopeless at self portraiture with a regular camera, iphones make it nearly impossible. The makeup looked way better in my mind and a little better before I tried to use one of last year’s contact lenses. That was a mistake, my eye still hurts.

Spotted around the corner from my house, at the deconstruction site. It’s at least 10 feet high and is like a giant nest of bent up rebar mixed with chunks of cement. It’s prettier than you’d think. It’s exactly as cool as you think.

I’m taking Ari to play on it tomorrow. Hey, we’re up to date on our tetanus shots!*

* Just kidding, obvi. But I do want to take her and show her how awesome it is. And to discuss our future-this mountain represents the building we’d planned on hiding in during the future zombie apocalypse, now we need a backup plan.

My new neighbour (and old room mate!) Kerrick is an avid knitter (and way WAY more of an expert at it than I!) and loaned me her ball winder so I could do some stash tidying…

40 balls later…

Pretty, huh? I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed using that winder, I found it very relaxing. And frogging old projects that had been sitting around for a long time gathering dust, also good. Funny that Shannon almost seemed jealous of it too, ha!

I returned it today and also gifted her 4 of the balls, so I did do a little busting at the same time.

I spent about every other weekend at this house from the age of 4 through to about 14. It’s probably the most influential house of my entire life, more so than any house I ever lived in.

This is the house I think of when I smell pancakes frying, use a white board, look at dollhouses and walk on shag carpeting. It’s the house that made me love Siamese cats, model trains and fake fireplaces. Every time I eat a cherry or see someone canoeing, pat a spaniel puppy, it’s this house.

Did I mention the laundry chute?

Lakeside Park, so many memories

Anyone that grew up in the Niagara Region has spent time at Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie. Even Neil Peart, a local hero, wrote a song about it. The wonderful merry-go-round is still there and it still only costs five cents a ride. A good deal for kids of all ages. There are more than just horses on it too, lots of goats, camels, giraffes, lions and benches for the fogies or for people with infants.

And even on a sunny Saturday afternoon we only had to wait one song to hop on.

Ari took a few minutes to test out horses before going with a dark charcoal one with a long, real horsehair, tail. She rode a couple more times after that, picking different horses each time.

I was very happy to see these three fellows that have been around that park since I was a kid. I wonder how many times they’ve been repainted.

They’re garbage bins, if you couldn’t tell. I wish I had these at my house!

Boosting the Blue Jays

I went to another ball game last night, Blue Jays vs. Cleveland Indians. We got great seats because we went with a friend who’s in a wheelchair: disabled seating’s quite fantastic, actually, you’re on the floor right behind the 100′s and they give you folding chairs, so there’s tons of legroom, you can stand up and scream and not worry about blocking anyone’s view and you’re right at the concession stands and washrooms. Worth every penny of the $24.00 it cost for 2 tickets. It was also Fan Friday and we all got free towels to twirl in the air whenever the Jays got a run.

And let me tell ya, my arm is tired. Final score? 8-1 for the Jays! Yahoo!

The seats weren’t perfect, I guess. We were pretty far out to the left (or is it right?) field and couldn’t see the Jumbotron. Oh well. It was still better than nosebleeds!

I also spent a while trying on Jays baseball hats, I really want one but they were either outrageously expensive (I mean, really? $47 for a CAP??!?) or had a velcro closure that ripped out my hair. Or were too small for my giant head. So I looked online and found a couple that I’ll never order, including this one. It is described as such:

Which I don’t have a problem with, except that it has a Canadian flag design. So. Yeah.

(And I am not a huge fan of the newer Jays logo anyway, I want old skool.)
